  An active volcano is a volcano that is still capable of errupting unlike an unactive volcano, which is probably a extinct volcano if it hasn't errupted for centuries, the unactive volcano has no possibilty from errupting if it has gone extinct. Although, some volcanos can be still errupt, they may just be dormant.
